The British government sent Sir Stafford Cripps to India in March 1942 during World War II to seek Indian political cooperation. His proposals included Dominion Status after the war, the creation of a new constitution-making body, and the option for provinces not to join the proposed Indian Union. However, the proposals failed to satisfy the major political parties.
