Investigators believe the killing was orchestrated by members of the Adelson family following a bitter custody battle between Markel and his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson. The case has led to multiple arrests, including hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, as well as Katherine Magbanua then Wendi's brother, Charlie Adelson.
