Released without charge, he went on to become an author, public speaker, media commentator, and outreach director of CAGE, a London-based advocacy organisation that aims "to empower communities impacted by the War on Terror”. In 2019, he was included in the "Muslim 500" - a listing of the most influential Muslims in the world.
