When we hear the term “love bombing,” we often think of control or intentional manipulation.

And while that can happen in extreme cases… love bombing actually exists on a spectrum.

Sometimes, what looks like over-the-top compliments, intense pursuit, and fast emotional escalation isn’t about control, it’s about insecurity.

Anxious or fearful individuals may put someone on a pedestal. They admire them. They fear losing them. They want to win them over.

So they over-give.

They over-praise.

They over-invest.

Not from a place of strategy, but from a place of core wounds and people-pleasing patterns.

Understanding the difference matters.

Because when you can see the insecurity underneath the behavior, you can respond with clarity instead of confusion, and decide whether the dynamic is something you want to participate in.

Have you ever experienced intense early attention that felt amazing at first… but overwhelming later?
