Francesca Fiorentini is joined by director and producer Symone Baptiste and comedian Jackie Kashian to discuss the rancid mixture of nostalgia that has state lawmakers passing legislation against “line warming” (any measure that would allow people to stand in line to vote for a longer period of time, like passing out water or food), legislation requiring state ID to send a mail-in ballot and ends portable polling sites. Each of these measures disproportionately affect voters of color in the state, and in a wild coincidence, that was the point.
The Secretary of State no longer oversees the Election Board; instead, the legislature now appoints a board that has control over voting. If you are able to recall a few months ago (it’s okay if you’re not, time has lost all meaning), that Trump guy asked Georgia’s Sec. of State to find thousands of “lost” votes for him and the Georgia guy was all, “No,” so it looks like the legislator is the road to a “Yes!” next time!
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is getting some backlash for these new laws, but but don’t worry, he’ll figure out a way to blame it on … a vast conspiracy or an accident. He previously accused the Department of Homeland Security of trying to hack HIS OFFICE. But why would they need to do that, you might ask, when Kemp’s office managed to accidentally distribute information for 6.2 MILLION VOTERS themselves? It’s a good question, because 2 years later, in 2017, Kemp’s office exposed the personal information of all 6.7 MILLION registered voters. Not to fear! Kemp’s office simply WIPED THE FREAKING SERVERS before they could determine what had been done with the information.
Look: Brian Kemp is a NIGHTMARE. He sneaked his way into a win against Stacey Abrams in 2018. He frauded his way through pretty much everything described above. All he’s done is fraud and incompetence and sleaze all around town and he’s a shining beacon of voter suppression. He must be stopped. Filibuster??? Can you help us??? Stacey Abrams?? God?
