3:11Now PlayingMayors and governors use the police to put a lid on the symptoms of extreme inequality in cities and states across the country. Police power goes hand with political ineptitude. Whether the politician is Democrat or Republican, the story is the same: they love cops and rely on them to make problems disappear rather than actually fixing those problems. Professor Alex Vitale joins Francesca and comedian Baron Vaughn to discuss how mayors and governors utilize police to criminalize the poverty that they have only made worse. It's not just New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's sexual misconduct allegations or the nursing home scandal, it's his longstanding reliance on an ever-militarized and unaccountable police force. So of course they don't want to defund the police, cause they might actually have to invest in real solutions!
