Beginning this year, New York City’s local elections will use rankedchoice voting. (Here is a good little dive into how rankedchoice works and how it might affect the NYC mayoral race).
Other frontrunners in this year’s NYC mayoral race include Scott Stringer, Eric Adams, Maya Wiley, Dianne Morales, Shaun Donovan, Kathryn Garcia, and Ray McGuire. You can find their bios and a more complete list of candidates here
Rafael describes his experience with who exactly the Yang Gang came to be comprised of, in real time, during the run-up to the 2020 primary. He states that what he saw was earnest, inexperienced, young voters who took an interest in politics and found Yang to be the most “real,” relatable candidate. Yang was certainly appealing to many people as a political outsider. His Universal Basic Income (UBI) promise also instantly won MANY people over.
Well, he’s dropped the UBI promise as a part of his mayoral campaign. (It’s not exactly “universal” if it’s only NYC … oh god, the chaos it would create.)
The group running his campaign, Tusk Venture Capital, is most famous for preventing app drivers (Uber, Lyft, DoorDash) from being classified as employees in California (Prop 22). In short: These people are VERY BAD. They are not good, they are slimy and sneaky and Yang CHOSE them to run his campaign.
