12:14Now PlayingIn the face of extreme voter suppression laws, Texas Democrats have decided to stage a walkout. Not just of the capitol building but the entire state itself! In a bid to stop Republicans from passing a series of new voting restrictions, left Texas altogether, thereby denying Republicans quorum to pass the legislation. They went to Washington DC, where they’ve been lobbying for support of a federal “For the People” Senate bill. The Texas delegation has met with Senator Joe Manchin, among other Senators, to try and whisper sweet nothings in their ears about reforming or ending the filibuster. Manchin for his part, politely told them to kick rocks. Don’t you wish you loved something as much as Joe Manchin loves the anti-democratic filibuster?
So will their desperate bid to prevent voter suppression laws work? Only for so long. Governor Greg Abbott has promised yet another special session to pass them. Turns out Abbott loves keeping black people from the ballot box as much as Joe Manchin loves the filibuster. Isn’t that adorable?
