During Trump’s first cabinet meeting, the press questioned RFK about the devastating measles outbreak in West Texas. So far, more than 130 people have been stricken by the preventable disease, most of which are children. And tragically, a child has died as a result of the infection. But this fact didn’t move the needle for Bobby.
He nonchalantly responded saying that there have been four measles outbreaks so far this year, and that last year there were sixteen. Is that supposed to be better? The math ain’t mathing on this one. If we have had four outbreaks in two months, then we would end up having twenty four outbreaks by the end of year at that pace! And that assumes that these outbreaks don’t get worse with RFK at the helm of the HHS.
If that didn’t inspire confidence in RFK’s leadership, don’t worry, it gets worse. We also learned that the HHS abruptly canceled a meeting with immunologists to develop this year’s flu vaccines! It usually takes around six months to develop a new flu shot each year, so good luck staying healthy this Fall. And for good measure, RFK put a 90 day pause on the development of an COVID vaccine pill over “safety concerns”. Start stocking up on N95 masks, because the U.S. is becoming an incubator for preventable disease.
