26:29Now PlayingThe Ellison family seems to be on a mission to acquire the entirety of the American media landscape. They are still in the process of trying to acquire Warner Bros., which would be a complete disaster for media in the U.S. Alvaro Bedoya joined Francesca to talk about his former role at the Federal Trade Commission and how he is currently working to fight back against this media monopoly.
We are getting closer and closer to fully having state-controlled media thanks to the Ellison family. David and Larry have been trying to push through a merger with Warner Bros, which would give them massive control over nearly the entire media television, film and news landscape. Also, the Ellisons are besties with Donald Trump. And we all know how much Trump loves to abuse his power to silence his media critics.
This is also a labor problem. Lots of people are checked out of this story, thinking it’s just billionaire business owners vs. Hollywood elites. But the reality is that “Hollywood” is a blue collar business. The majority of people who work in the industry are independent contractors and union workers. Turning the industry into a monopoly will have huge ramifications for the working class people who make our television, film and the truth.
