"WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Donald Trump, who three years ago attempted a violent coup to remain in the White House and now faces decades in prison for it, nevertheless comfortably won the first nominating contest in the 2024 Republican presidential race at the Iowa caucuses on Monday as he seeks to regain his old job.
“What a turnout, what a crowd,” Trump said at his victory party in Des Moines and suggested that the primary was essentially over and that the whole country should now back him. “We’re going to come together, and it’s going to happen soon, too.”
He then took a laughing swipe at his two top rivals, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who spent much of the past months attacking each other rather than taking on Trump. “I want to congratulate Ron and Nikki for having a good time together,” he said."
