"Luigi Mangione's lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, slammed the "outrageous" decision by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Chief of Detectives, Joseph Kenny, to share crucial evidence with HBO, before she said the defense team had even seen it.
Agnifilo was speaking outside a Manhattan courthouse today following a hearing for Mangione, 26, on Friday.
During the hearing, she criticized prosecutors for breaching the discovery deadline, where evidence is shared with the defense, and said her team were still waiting for basic police records and Mangione's so-called "manifesto."
She had then been "shocked" to see Adams and Kenny discussing that evidence in a HBO documentary.
"This week on HBO, in a documentary, I see the Chief of Detectives and the NYC Mayor, full hair and make up done, sitting down and giving an interview for television talking about the evidence in Luigi's case," Agnifilo said outside court. "Talking about police paperwork we don't have. Talking about forensics that we have not received. I guess we have now today. But I didn't when I was sitting there learning about the case, hearing an actor, playing Luigi, reading from a journal they say is Luigi's when we have yet to receive it from prosecution."
