"All across America, people are going to town hall-style events hosted by Republican members of Congress now that the House is in recess.
And they’re angry.
Last week, Rep. Richard McCormick (R-GA) tried to defend Elon Musk’s cuts to the CDC, which is based in Atlanta and helps protect Americans from communicable diseases. Someone asked him what he was doing to “rein in the megalomaniac in the White House” before cheers broke out. McCormick responded by comparing people mad at Musk and Donald Trump’s cuts, many of which have already been ruled to violate federal law, to the January 6 rioters, even though the people at his town hall weren’t rioting.
People chanted, “No kings! No kings!” at an event held by Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-CA), likely a reference to the White House declaring Trump to be “the king” last week as he issued an executive order claiming the power to interpret the law on behalf of independent federal agencies."
