Trump says Musk “wants to get back home to his cars” though welcome to stay
"President Donald Trump on Wednesday publicly told Elon Musk that he’s welcome to stay in his administration but acknowledged that the Tesla CEO wants to go back to running his company.
“You know you’re invited to stay as long as you want, and so forth,” Trump said during a meeting with his Cabinet. “I guess he wants to get back home to his cars.”
Musk is widely expected to leave his role heading up the Department of Government Efficiency in part because of the time limits on his special government employee status. His departure also comes as Tesla sales have plummeted over his high-profile role on Trump’s team.
The president congratulated Musk for his work drastically reducing the federal workforce and Cabinet officials gave him a round of applause in what appeared to be an unofficial goodbye. Musk and his work in government have been unpopular, according to polls, with just 35% of Americans holding a positive opinion of Musks’ DOGE work, according to to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos survey released Friday."
