House Democratic leaders will give remarks Wednesday afternoon as the caucus kicks off its annual party retreat, just days ahead of a potential government shutdown.

Their comments come after House Republicans pushed through their stopgap funding bill seeking to fund the government through Sept. 30. The continuing resolution, which Congressional Democrats have pressured their Senate colleagues to scrap and adopt their own bill, would also boost funds for defense programs while imposing cuts to nondefense funding.

Democrats have also been heavily critical of President Trump’s sweeping executive actions to cut foreign aid programs and overhaul the federal workforce through mass layoffs.

The press conference, led by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), is scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m. EDT.
