44:04Now PlayingPresident Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will give remarks from the White House Friday morning amid concern over whether the U.S. will continue its 75-year leadership of NATO and at what level of commitment.
The potential move has drawn scrutiny from Republican defense hawks in Congress.
Their remarks also come after Hegseth vowed to appeal a federal judge’s decision to block Trump’s ban on transgender people serving openly in the military.
The Pentagon secretary is also expected to meet with Elon Musk on Friday as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continues its work to slash federal funding and overhaul the workforce.
Hegseth announced Thursday that roughly $580 million in contracts deemed “inconsistent” with administration priorities were canceled. Earlier this week, Defense officials also suggested 5 to 8 percent of the civilian military workforce could be cut.
Trump and Hegseth are scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. EDT.
