The hearing comes as the Trump administration defends the president’s sweeping tariffs on nearly all foreign trading partners — while pushing for more trade deals — and amid a legal battle over whether he has the authority to implement the import taxes. Trump’s plan to double steel and aluminum tariffs also went into effect on Wednesday.
