House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will speak to reporters Tuesday morning as the government shutdown stretches into Day 7.

Senate Democrats on Monday blocked the GOP's "clean" continuing resolution from advancing, marking the fifth time the stopgap funding bill has been rejected. The vote has remained virtually unchanged, other than absences, since the shutdown started last Wednesday.

Democrats are standing firm on their demands for health care concessions to be included in the CR and Republicans have grown frustrated about the lack of movement. They need at least five more Democratic lawmakers to come on board to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to reopen the government.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
