Also looming over the case is the Justice Department’s criminal investigation into Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who is expected to attend the arguments, sources told The Hill’s sister network NewsNation.
The high court’s conservative majority has appeared sympathetic to Trump’s efforts to nix firing protections at other independent agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and National Labor Relations Board. But the justices have suggested they view the nation’s central bank as possessing special status.
