Funding for the Department of Homeland Security is in limbo as Congress has just days to pass another bill or face a partial shutdown. Republicans and Democrats have hit an impasse over potential reforms for the department after two U.S. citizens were shot and killed in Minnesota last month at the hands of federal immigration officers.
The press briefing also comes as some lawmakers review unredacted files tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Justice Department published its final tranche of documents in the case late last month and President Trump, who has been named in the files but not accused of wrongdoing, suggested the release “absolves” him.
Trump has also faced scrutiny over his calls to nationalize elections ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
