24:24Now PlayingHouse GOP Caucus Chair Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and other top Republicans will speak with reporters Thursday afternoon as funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) remains in limbo nearly three weeks after appropriations lapsed.
Republicans have revamped their push for Democrats to support legislation to reopen DHS after the U.S. military launched a joint strike on Iran with Israel last week. Dems have thus far maintained that reforms to President Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda are necessary before they jump on board — and the Middle East conflict has done little to move the needle.
The press conference also comes after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem faced fiery questioning this week from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in two separate hearings before the House and Senate Judiciary Committees.
The lower chamber is expected to vote later Thursday on DHS funding and on a resolution under the War Powers Act that would prevent further military operations in Iran without congressional approval. A similar effort failed in the Senate on Wednesday.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
