President Trump earlier this year announced his administration's plans to strip federal funding from sanctuary cities and states — or areas that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement to protect residents against deportation. The move falls in line with policies he promoted on the campaign trail.
The hearing comes amid the DHS shutdown as the department faces backlash over its tactics when carrying out the president's immigration agenda. Wolf, who served in the first Trump administration, also weighed in on the ouster of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in a recent interview.
