54:04Now PlayingRep. James Clyburn (S.C.), a longtime Democratic leader in the House, will make a campaign announcement on Thursday morning in Columbia, South Carolina.
The 85-year-old stepped down from his post as Assistant Democratic Leader in 2024 and was replaced by Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.). He had been the party's whip until 2022.
Clyburn told The Washington Post this month that he was unsure if he would run for re-election, but said he would like his daughter, Jennifer Clyburn-Reed, replace him if he didn't.
Clyburn was first elected to the House in 1992 and has been South Carolina's senior member since 2011. He was a crucial figure in former President Biden's 2020 election win, endorsing the former vice president just days before the pivotal South Carolina primary.
