The forum comes as pressure mounts on the administration and lawmakers over travel woes caused by airport security shortages amid the DHS funding lapse and as Iran and the U.S. go back-and-forth over demands for a potential ceasefire deal to end the Middle East conflict.
Trump earlier this week deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to airports across the U.S. to assist the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) with the long lines — and with some pushback. Republicans and Democrats have each floated bills to separate TSA and other non-immigration agencies from the main DHS funding bill, but the efforts have been blocked.
The Cabinet meeting will also mark Markwayne Mullin's first one since he was sworn in earlier this week to lead DHS.
