7:03:41Now PlayingThe House Ethics Committee on Thursday afternoon will look into allegations against Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.), who is accused of stealing $5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Fund and using part of it to fund her successful 2022 congressional campaign.
The rare public hearing will put Democrats in a tough spot, complicating an anti-corruption message they have hoped would help them flip the House in November.
Cherfilus-McCormick pleaded not guilty to the charges in February. Earlier this week, she blasted the Ethics Committee for declining her entreaties to delay Thursday’s hearing, saying it denied her legal team a “reasonable time to prepare.”
