47:45Now PlayingNASA’s Artemis II test flight is set to launch later Wednesday, marking the first crewed mission to head toward the moon in more than five decades.
The crew, including U.S. astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, as well as Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, are set to take a 10-day voyage orbiting the moon. During the mission, NASA will test the Orion spacecraft’s life support systems for the first time with people and “lay the groundwork” for future crewed missions, according to the agency.
"What an exciting day for AMERICAN SPACE DOMINANCE," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who is serving as acting NASA administrator, wrote on social platform X earlier Wednesday.
"ARTEMIS II is going around the MOON and beyond. What we learn here is going to get us to MARS!" he added. "And it all begins TODAY."
The launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island, Fla., is scheduled for 6:24 p.m. EDT.
