President Trump announced the pause in a post on Truth Social less than two hours before the 8 p.m. EDT deadline for Iranian leaders to make a deal and open the Strait of Hormuz.
“The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East,” Trump wrote, adding that the regime’s latest 10-point proposal is a “workable basis on which to negotiate.”
The president’s extreme rhetoric threatening civilization in Iran faced severe backlash Tuesday ahead of the deadline.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. EDT.
