Trump earlier Tuesday touted his $400 million ballroom project during an impromptu presser from the construction site near the now-demolished East Wing, telling reporters, "All of this paid for by myself." The project has been a point of contention on both sides of the aisle.
The president has also heavily campaigned for the Save America Act, an election reform bill, defended the U.S. military operation and flexed his endorsement muscles in several midterm primary races.
The informal gathering brings in members of the executive and legislative branches, along with their families, in a celebration across party lines.
