5:54:31Now PlayingDefense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine will testify before the House Armed Services Committee on President Trump's defense budget request for fiscal 2027.
Hegseth has argued the $1.5 trillion price tag, a roughly 40 percent increase from 2026 levels, would send a “message to the world” in its reestablishment of the U.S.’s military might.
The duo will also likely face questions around the conflict in Iran, which has now surpassed 60 days. It marks Hegseth's first high-profile hearing on Capitol Hill since the war began and will provide lawmakers a chance to grill him on the controversial ousting of ex-Army chief of staff Randy George and the resignation of former Navy Secretary John Phelan.
The Pentagon is also looking to codify Trump's decision to revert back to the "Department of War" and "Secretary of War" monikers.
