MAGA Economic FAFO: Supreme Court Kills Trump’s Tariffs

The conservative Supreme Court just struck down Donald Trump’s signature tariffs as unlawful. In a 6–3 decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Court ruled that Trump never had the authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to slap broad “reciprocal” tariffs on imports.

For years, MAGA politicians and right-wing media sold these tariffs as “tough” and “patriotic” – a way to punish China, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. In reality, they jacked up prices for American manufacturers, farmers, and consumers, and invited retaliatory tariffs that hammered U.S. exports.

Now the Court says the president can’t just declare an “emergency” and rewrite trade law on the fly. Congress controls tariffs, not the Oval Office. But the billions already collected?

That money is still in limbo, and the people who paid the price first were the same voters told this was “America First.”
