10:48Now PlayingZohran Mamdani says he cannot support a state that “privileges one religion over another,” specifically citing Israel and saying the same principle would apply to Saudi Arabia or any other country.
But shortly afterward, Mamdani publicly celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with Pakistani New Yorkers.
And that creates an obvious question: does Mamdani actually apply this principle consistently?
Pakistan’s constitution explicitly declares Islam the state religion. It also requires laws to conform with the injunctions of Islam as laid down in the Quran and Sunnah, establishes a Council of Islamic Ideology, and includes constitutional religious requirements for major political offices.
