IRS tax return backlog should have been addressed a year ago, said Rep. Brady

With tax season officially underway, the IRS is facing mounting pressure under a system plagued with ancient technology, a worker shortage and a backlog of millions of outstanding returns from last year.

“Although the IRS is facing a historically long backlog of tax filings, President Biden and congressional Democrats have failed to allocate even a dime to help taxpayers this tax filing season,” said Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas. “The painful backlog and customer service failures at the agency have become yet another crisis for hardworking American taxpayers.”

Brady sent a letter to the IRS commissioner requesting a plan be put in place to address the massive backlog.; but Brady said a plan was needed a year ago to address the backlog from the 2020 tax season.
