Legal basis for Khalil's detention stems from Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and former Columbia University student, must remain in the United States until his case is resolved, and also transferred the case to New Jersey. Khalil was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last week after the Trump administration accused him of supporting terrorists, particularly Hamas.
