Dual-income couples struggle to afford homes in metros as housing costs soar

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows real wages increased just 1.4% from 2024 to 2025, far below housing price growth. That leaves middle-class families squeezed, particularly in cities outside mid-sized.

The takeaway: Americans are moving less, and the high housing costs and modest wage growth are making homeownership and mobility harder than ever.
