COLD CASE: Stepmother convicted of killing 5-year-old girl in scalding hot bath nearly 50 years ago

A woman was convicted in the 1978 death of her 5-year-old stepdaughter -- who died after being placed in a scalding hot bath -- after new evidence prompted police to reopen the case nearly five decades later.

Metropolitan Police on Tuesday said Janice Nix, 67, of southwest London, was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Andrea Bernard following a trial at Isleworth Crown Court. She was also convicted of "assault and ill-treatment" involving Andrea's older brother, Desmond, between 1975 and 1978.
