Channel migrant crisis: How Brexit made the risk of boat deaths between France and UK worse

In what was an avoidable tragedy, at least 27 people have died trying to reach the UK after their boat capsized in the English Channel. This is the deadliest day we have seen at in the Channel crossing and has lead to concerns over the Migrant crisis once again increasing.

“The vote to leave the European Union was many things, but perhaps above all it was a vote to control immigration.” With tensions between France and the UK rising after Boris Johnson’s letter to Emanuel Macron, the hopes of cooperation on this issue seem less realistic.

Now, the legacy of Brexit is making it harder to prevent an appalling human tragedy unfolding in the English Channel, as record numbers of people attempt the treacherous crossing in small boats in their search for a better life in the UK.
