Economist and Journalist Duncan Weldon speaks to the New Statesman's George Eaton to discuss his cover story in the latest issue of the New Statesman magazine, titled ""The big slow down: how the UK became the new sick man of Europe"". In this video Weldon explains how the economic policies put in place by David Cameron and George Osborne weakened the UK and placed the country in a poor position to cope with the challenges of the early 2020's - including Brexit, the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Weldon compares the ecomic trajectory of the UK to that of Italy, which was once one of the strongest European economies but has fallen to a ""distinctly mid-table"" position."
