SPECIAL BROADCAST | US Presidential Debate & Commentary (09.10.24) 830p | The Political Spotlight

This is a SPECIAL BROADCAST of the SECOND presidential debate of the '2024 US Presidential Election.' Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will officially meet for the first time at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center in a showdown that will most likely define the rest of the presidential campaign. While this is the second debate in this election cycle, it will be the first between Trump and Harris. Harris was only nominated as the candidate after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on Sunday, July 21st, 2024.

The Political Spotlight team will be LIVE STREAMING the debate while working to fact-check information and provide commentary... before, during, and after!

The Commission on Presidential Debates is not overseeing this year's debates. Instead, the various news networks hosting the debates developed the "Debate Rules" that both the Trump and Harris campaigns agreed to.

ABC News is hosting the debate, and David Muir and Linsey Davis will moderate. According to ABC's rules, released last week, there will be no live audience and no opening statements. Harris and Trump are not permitted to ask questions of each other. The candidates will have two minutes to answer questions, two minutes for rebuttals, and an additional minute for follow-ups and clarifications. The candidates will then have two minutes to deliver closing statements at the end of the debate. On stage, each candidate will be given a pen, notepad, and a bottle of water; however, no props or written notes will be allowed.

The debate will last 90 minutes and feature two commercial breaks. * During each break, 'The Political Spotlight' will cut away from the feed until the debate resumes. * During the two breaks, campaign staff will be prohibited from interacting with their respective candidates, denying them the opportunity for strategic consultations or to touch up the candidates’ appearance.

A coin flip determined the podium placement and order of closing statements. ABC News announced that Trump won the virtual coin toss, allowing him to give the final closing statement; Harris will go first. Harris chose to stand on the right (stage left), putting Trump on the left (stage right).
