Critics say he likes the microblogging platform because it feeds his bottomless need for attention and admiration. On Friday, the former reality TV star sought to distract people from his administration’s troubling ties to Russia and the fate of embattled Attorney Gen. Jeff Sessions by accusing Democratic politicians of having their own nefarious ties to the former Soviet Union. First, he tweeted a photo of New York Sen. Chuck Schumer drinking coffee and eating a donut with Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin at a congressional meet-and-greet that took place in 2003. “We should start an immediate investigation into @SenSchumer and his ties to Russia and Putin. A total hypocrite!” wrote the president. Schumer batted the innuendo aside, writing, “Happily talk re: my contact w Mr. Putin & his associates, took place in ’03 in full view of press & public under oath. Would you &your team?” “I hear by demand a second investigation, after Schumer, of Pelosi for her close ties to Russia, and lying about it,” the chief executive tweeted, undermining his big “J’accuse!” moment by misspelling “hereby.” Someone must have gently pointed the error out to Trump because he deleted that first effort and tried again. “I hearby demand a second investigation, after Schumer, of Pelosi for her close ties to Russia, and lying about it,” said the second tweet. Mike Madden of the Washington Post noted that in between the two misspelled tweets, Pres. Trump tweeted about the need to improve our public schools. “I like how the tweet about improving our education system (for our kids!) is between two misspellings,” said Madden. President Trump sent two tweets Friday with two different spellings of the word "hereby." But he nailed it the third time. Trump, who spent part of the day at an Orlando, Fla., school, sent the tweet to demand an investigation into what he called House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's "ties to Russia." His evidence was a photo of Pelosi sitting at a table with Russian officials. Strike one: "I hear by demand a second investigation, after Schumer, of Pelosi for her close ties to Russia, and lying about it." Strike two: "I hearby demand a second investigation, after Schumer, of Pelosi for her close ties to Russia, and lying about it." Then, on the third hack, Trump hit it out of the park: The president was referring to a tweet he sent earlier Friday about Schumer. He shared an old picture of Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a tweet reading, "We should start an immediate investigation into @SenSchumer and his ties to Russia and Putin. A total hypocrite!" President Trump on Friday misspelled "hereby" in two tweets, which have since been deleted and replaced with the correct spelling. Both tweets called for an investigation into Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for their ties to Russia. The first tweet spelled hereby "hear by," so Trump deleted it and replaced it with another tweet. But that second tweet spelled "hereby" as "hearby," again a misspelling. Social media users were quick to jump on the mistakes, despite the effort to delete and correct the tweets: In a series of tweets this afternoon, President Donald Trump repeatedly misspelled the word “hereby” while alleging that the U.S. House minority leader has “close ties” to Russia.
