Biden tops list of potential 2020 Democrats in new poll. Former Vice President Joe Biden tops a list of prospective Democratic candidates for the 2020 presidential race in a new survey. Seventy-four percent of Democrats in the Morning Consult/Politico poll out Monday view Biden favorably. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), with a favorable rating from 51 percent of Democrats, follows Biden in second place.
"I don't have any plans to do it, but I'm not promising I wouldn't do it,” he continued."I have no intention of running for president, but I'm a great respecter of fate,” Biden told NPR last week.
Other contenders in the new poll included Democratic Sens. Al Franken (Minn.), Cory Booker (N.J.) and Kamala Harris (Calif.). The poll surveyed 895 Democratic voters from June 8 to 12 and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. Democratic voters' favorite potential 2020 presidential contender is former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a new Morning Consult/Politico poll.
Seventy-four percent of Democrats view Biden favorably, who would be 77 years old by the time of the Iowa caucuses, according to the survey.
Biden last month criticized the Democratic Party's 2016 presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, for not being the right choice.
"I never thought she was the correct candidate. I thought I was the correct candidate," Biden said during a speech in Las Vegas.
Poll respondents found Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) to be the second most popular Democrat among possible 2020 candidates, with 51 percent having a favorable view of her.
Democratic Sens. Al Franken (Minn.), Cory Booker (N.J.), and Tim Kaine (Va.) rounded out the top five with favorability ratings of 45 percent, 37 percent, and 37 percent, respectively.
Half of Democrats either had not heard of or had no opinion of Kaine, despite him being Clinton's running mate in 2016. A similar number of Democrats also had never heard of or had no opinion of Booker.
Other liberal lawmakers seen as potential 2020 contenders suffer from limited name recognition among Democrats nationwide.
Sixty-three percent of Democratic voters said they did not know or had no opinion of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.), and 66 percent said they have no opinion of Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.). Warren, the second most popular potential Democratic candidate, recently sent a verbal warning to President Donald Trump.
