According to a poll from Morning Consult, which included 141,400 registered voters, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the most popular senator in the country with a 75% approval compared to a 21% disapproval. While Bernie Sanders is the most popular senator according to the poll, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell has the highest disapproval rating, with 48% saying they disapproved and 41% expressing their approval. The three senators with the highest approval rating are an Independent who caucuses with Democrats and two Democrats, while the three senators with the highest disapproval rating are all Republicans. According to Morning Consult: “In Oklahoma, GOP Sens. James Lankford and Jim Inhofe saw their net approval ratings slide 7 points and 11 points, respectively, since the first quarter. Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake also saw negative swings — McCain by 12 points, Flake by 14 points — and Sens. Tom Cotton and John Boozman of Arkansas saw 9-point and 8-point dips, respectively.” Many Americans are beginning to discuss who should be Presidential candidates for their respective parties, and Bernie Sanders’s current popularity has cemented his name as a potential candidate. Bernie Sanders recently stated: “I am not taking it off the table” concerning the conversation of a possible 2020 candidacy for President as the Democratic nominee.
