In this report from CBS we see that not only is Kamala Harris currently surging in the polls, but she also has another secret weapon in which she is surging in. That's new voter registration, in which the groups that have been reported to have been showing enthusiasm and support for Harris, are registering at record speeds compared to 2020 in the week after Biden. It's near three times the rates for young black women between the same week in 2020 and the week in 2024 where Biden dropped out. Young black women, young latinas, and other young people in general are registering to vote at unthinkable rates, indicating a new found interest to vote and enthusiasm.
These are also people likely to be missed by the polling data, so this means Kamala Harris has a good shot of actually overperforming her poll numbers, which we saw Biden do in the Sun Belt. Kamala likely does even better in terms of overperformance, and maybe even does this in the rust belt depending on how she is polling.
It's important not to just look at polls but also looking at how voters are acting, and this is a great sign for the campaign, as these people have a high likelihood of voting and are also likely to be MISSED by the polls. This means they could be undercounting her as well.
