All of it moves downslope and at the snout everything gets dumped. That builds terminal moraines, which are a geological record of glacier endpoint.
During deglaciation there’s massive fragmentation. The active zone where ice breaks down is called the zone of ablation - living ice in the sense that it's constantly changing.
Terminal moraines record the conveyor belt's history. Everything collected during advance, deposited at the end. The geology tells the story of what the ice carried and where it stopped.
