He walks through the basic logic of geopolitical intervention and its unintended consequences. When a country faces external invasion, populations instinctively unite behind their leadership, regardless of internal divisions. The interventions themselves often manufacture adversaries out of nations that had no prior interest in conflict with America. He points to the sheer scale of economic interdependence as evidence: hundreds of billions in goods and services flow between the US and China. What would war with China accomplish? There would be no positive outcome whatsoever. The same calculus applies to Russia. The economic ties alone should tell us something about the irrationality of military escalation.
