2:12Now PlayingProtesters from Black Lives Matters showed up at a Hillary Clinton campaign event last week in New Hampshire, hoping to ask the presidential candidate tough questions about mass incarceration and the policies of her husband that helped put more African American men behind bars for small offenses. And the very predictable happened that day – the protesters were not allowed inside the event.
Instead, the protesters and a handful of other members of the public were told that the room was at capacity, so they were escorted to a private room where they watched the event on a monitor. After Clinton finished speaking, she did meet with the protesters for about 15 minutes, and this is where things start to get a little hazy.
According to the Clinton campaign, the Black Lives Matter protesters asked that the media not be allowed in the room during the meeting, a sharp contrast from the group’s very public confrontations between Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley. However, the protesters later told CNN that this was not the case – they were asked by the Clinton campaign if they wanted a picture with the candidate, to which they said no, and that it was the decision of the campaign to not bring in members of the media.
Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.
