4:15Now PlayingHouse Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is doing the political equivalent of taking his ball and going home after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pulled two of his picks off the Select Committee to investigate the January 6th Capitol Riot. McCarthy decided to withdraw ALL of his picks, and it doesn't look like he has any intention of putting anyone else on the Committee. The Committee will likely move forward with only Republican Liz Cheney on the panel, as she was chosen by Pelosi and appears eager to be an honest participant. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Yesterday House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, pulled the political equivalent of taking his ball and going home when he decided that he was pulling all of the Republicans off of the select committee to investigate the Capitol Riot on January 6th. Now this happened after Nancy Pelosi rejected two of his choices. Obviously one was Jim Jordan, the other one was congressmen Banks, both of whom voted to not certify certain results from the electoral college and Pelosi put her foot down. She said, listen, I'm not going to have election deniers serving on this committee when election denial is what led to this insurrection in the first place, that would make no sense, Kevin. So Kevin got all flustered, got bitter, got pissy and he said, well, then I'm taking all my Republicans and I'm going home. Good. Now, technically there's still one Republican on the committee, Republican put there by Nancy Pelosi.
And that is of course, Liz Cheney, who seems overly eager to serve on the committee and to expose, you know, any connection that these individuals may have had to Donald Trump. So, hey, good. We at least have a little bit of bipartisanship, right? But not enough. Now look, I'm totally, totally fine with this committee moving forward with nothing but Democrats, Republicans would only be there to serve as a distraction to get people off topic and to insert their crazed conspiracy theories into the hearing. So I have no problem with them leaving. The issue now, though, is that Republicans are going to use this opportunity to try and claim that look, the Democrats did this all by themselves. They didn't want our people on there. They took a couple off. So we took the rest off and, and now it's just a totally partisan fraud. That's going to be the talking point moving forward. So the Democratic party needs to get ahead of the messaging on this. We know that Republicans were the ones who chose to remove themselves from the committees.
They repeatedly voted down opportunities to have bipartisan commissions set up to investigate this. Democrats have to get on top of that messaging before Republicans go out there and they seize the narrative. And if you think the Democrats are already going to do that, you haven't been paying attention to politics for the last 30 years, have you? Because Democrats are exceptionally horrible at getting ahead on messaging. Even when they're 100% in the right, like they are right now, I guarantee you they're going to drop the ball on this. And the Republicans are going to seize the narrative, sell it to their base as a whole partisan sham, this entire committee. And that's going to be the narrative that conservative media runs with. That's what they're going to hammer into people's heads. And it's going to eclipse whatever this committee is able to find out about the January 6th Capitol riot.
So Democrats have to get busy on the messaging and we need to start moving forward with this committee. They've made it clear, obviously, they do want Donald Trump's involvement to be a part of this. Hell, they may even call him to testify. Who knows at this point, who knows if he would even show up, even if they do end up subpoenaing him, but this commission is 100% necessary.
