The Republican-controlled government in the state of Florida is still trying to hide the state's abysmal COVID death numbers from the public, and they haven't taken the truly disgusting step of not allowing residents to look up COVID numbers for their areas. This means that you can't access information about how bad the pandemic is in your area, which could be vital in making decisions about where to go and how best to protect yourself. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

The Republicans who control the state of Florida are doing everything they can to try to suppress data in this state about how many people are infected with COVID-19 and how many people have died from it. Back in July, they announced that they were going to switch from having a daily update on COVID-19 deaths in your county, uh, they were just going to do it weekly from that point forward. Well, it turns out the data simply disappeared after that. So if you're in the state of Florida, one of our 67 counties here, and you go to the state website trying to track COVID data for your county and you click on your county, there's nothing there. It's blank.
So the Republicans who control this state, who are totally denying that they're doing this, they're saying, nope, we're giving it all to the CDC. Then the CDC is not doing this. Cool. We're not talking about the CDC's website. We're talking about the Florida health departments websites. We're talking about county websites here in the state of Florida. Reporters have been calling county health departments asking about the COVID numbers and they have been told by the workers there, we don't know those numbers. So even the counties, according to the counties themselves, are not getting this data from the state. And again, Florida is wholly owned and operated by the Republican party. They control the legislature. They control the governor's mansion. Both of our US senators, Republicans. This is a Republican controlled state and they are suppressing this data because they don't want people to know how bad it is.
Last week, Florida was averaging one death every four minutes from COVID, one death every four minutes. And that wasn't even the worst in the country. That was only the second worst. Yet, here we are trying to put lives back together. Businesses are trying to decide whether or not to bring people back in or leave them working remotely. And they can't make accurate decisions because they cannot access that data. And that's the problem, folks. It's a problem for tourists who are still flocking down here to the state of Florida. Maybe they want to look into, okay, let's not go to this area because it has high COVID numbers. Let's go to this area instead. But they can't even check that. People aren't able to protect themselves, their families, their employees, anything, because the Republicans who control the state of Florida are still suppressing this data because they know how bad it makes them look.
And I think honestly, one of the bigger problems here is that the voters in this state are not going to hold these people accountable. When it comes time for the next election next November, 2022, most of these same Republicans are going to get reelected. And I know polls are saying the opposite right now, but I guarantee you, Ron DeSantis is still the front runner. Even though he's pulling behind both of his Democratic rivals, I guarantee you, if that vote were held today, DeSantis would still win reelection because we never learn. Doesn't matter how many of our friends and neighbors and family members die.
