3:49Now PlayingRepublican Senator Rand Paul was completely honest about why he viciously attacks Dr. Anthony Fauci - It translates into big dollars for his campaign. His attacks, as Fauci himself said during Congressional testimony this week, have led to death threats against the doctor, but none of that seems to matter to Paul. As long as the campaign cash continues to flow, Rand Paul will do whatever disgusting thing he thinks is necessary to get that money. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

Dr. Anthony Fauci and Republican Senator Rand Paul got into it once again this week during a Senate hearing, as the two always do, with Rand Paul attacking Fauci and Fauci finally getting angry and telling Rand Paul, that your attacks on me are purely political. You're doing this so that you can raise more money and of course, your attacks against me are leading to death threats against me and my family. He called Rand Paul out right there on the Senate floor. So Rand Paul then goes crying to Newsmax where he says this, we are opposed to him. He should be in jail and it is about elections. If Republicans takeover, if I win reelection, I'll subpoena all his records and we will investigate whether or not the virus came from a lab in Wuhan. So he does fear that and it is about electoral politics. I tell people to go to randpaul.com if you wanna fire Fauci. I'm very honest about that. That's what politics is about and I'm not pulling any punches.
You've taken a 40 year public servant and turned him into public enemy number one with the Republican party, because you are ashamed and embarrassed about how badly your party has bungled the pandemic response. That's what this is. Fauci does not deserve death threats from anybody. He has done absolutely nothing to warrant any of that. Is he a hero in this situation? Absolutely not. But is he a villain? Definitely not. But Republicans like Rand Paul had to turn him into one. One, because as Paul admits himself, it's great for fundraising. He's making a ton of money getting people angry at this man who again has been in this position for 40 years, but nobody cared or paid attention to him till right now because Republicans made him famous. They did this. They created this and they only created it because of how bad Trump's response to the pandemic was in the first year of this.
Had everything gone smoothly, had Trump done what the experts had been telling him to do, nobody would know who Anthony Fauci is today. We wouldn't even care. Rand Paul would have to find another boogieman to use as his enemy to fundraise against. But this created the perfect opportunity. They shift the blame. They try to say, oh, China created this and Anthony Fauci personally wrote 'em the checks for it. This conspiracy theory, by the way, has been widely debunked over the last couple years and I guess we're going to have to continue to debunk it. But all of this again is distraction and deflection. Republicans know that they have been the worst with this pandemic response. They know that they're supporters, their followers, their voters, are dying at a rate three times more than people that live in Democratic counties. That's what's happening in the country today. And as Omicron continues to spread, the death continues to spread. We hit an all time high in hospitalizations this week. Fauci didn't do that. Backwards policies from our elected officials did.
