3:30Now PlayingA Republican official in Macomb County, Michigan, forced a ballot audit in his county based off ridiculous election fraud conspiracies. As expected, the audit couldn't find any evidence of voter fraud. What's even weirder is that this is a county that Donald Trump easily won, so it is unclear why the official would even demand an audit in the first place. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening and the silver lining to all of these sham audits.

A small right leaning county in the state of Michigan, Macomb county, decided that they were going to take it upon themselves to conduct a ballot audit, just to make sure, you know, there was no funny business in the 2020 election. And here we are in January of 2022 and Macomb county released the results of their ballot audit just a couple days ago where they found that, oops, there was no fraud. We spent $16,000 and we couldn't find anything. This audit of course, was pushed by Republican Macomb county clerk Anthony Forlini, who commissioned the audit as conspiracy theories spread among supporters of Donald Trump that the machines had been hacked and or tampered with. And Mr. Forlini was forced to come out after the results were found and say, yeah, we didn't find any fraud, but you know, uh, uh, uh, this was just one step to restore confidence in the election process.
Oh, so they weren't, they weren't necessarily looking for fraud. They were looking for not fraud, right? We just wanted to show everybody that everything here in Macomb county is totally safe and secure and you can trust our electoral process here. Now what's really interesting is the fact that Macomb county even decided to do the audit because this is a county that Donald Trump won 53 to 45%. So he had a solid commanding eight point lead in this county when all the votes were tallied and yet Republicans were still saying, hold up now, I think there may be fraud. Maybe he won by an even bigger margin and we have to get to the bottom of that. And of course, this one did not prove what the other audits have proved and that is that Joe Biden actually got more votes or at least if that did happen in their audit, they didn't announce that. So there's still a chance it could have happened. They just haven't told us that.
All they're telling us is that you told us there was fraud. We spent $16,000 paying a company from Alabama to come up here and audit this and we couldn't find any. But I do have to say, I think to a degree, Mr. Forlini is right. All of these audits that are taking place should restore people's face, faith in our voting systems here. Things are working the way they should. We're not getting foreign interference. We're not getting domestic interference. We're not getting a whole bunch of people trying to vote twice. The few that have tried to do that have been busted. They're facing jail time. Like everything in our voting system actually appears to be working the way it's supposed to work. So if there is a silver lining from all of these right-wing conspiracy theories about stolen elections, it is that all of these audits, all of the recounts, all of the verifications have proven that our elections are far safer than any of us thought they actually were.
