You know, I always believe in giving credit where credit is due and I have been exceptionally hard on the United States Department of Justice and rightfully so for these past few months, even this week, calling for Merrick Garland to be fired, a comment for the record I actually still stand by. I do still believe that he should be removed from office. But I will give of the DOJ credit, story came out yesterday that they are moving forward with the investigation into the fake elector scheme that Donald Trump's allies put together in multiple different states. And there is a grand jury and they're sending out the subpoenas. So that's good. This is a good positive development from the United States Department of Justice. It is something that they should be doing and that they are doing and I do give them full credit for that because that's what we do. When they do something good, we tell you they do something good. When they do something bad, we tell you they do something bad, right? We call balls and strikes because that is our job.
So anyway, here's what's happening with this ongoing investigation, little backstory in case you'd already forgotten about it because I know the news changes so quickly, people move on from things. But anyway, you got multiple different states, Arizona, Michigan, the two big ones, where you had Republicans put together fake electors by submitting fake election documents to the state and to the federal government saying, oh, hey, by the way, these are actually the real electors because we don't think you can trust the results of our state. So it probably went to the other guy, Donald Trump. So here's the Trump electors and these are ones that, you know, you should sit, this is official. We signed it, we sealed it. We delivered it, except that the documents were of course, fraudulent. They were not official documents from the state, which means they committed fraud most likely, of course we can't say they definitely did it because they have not been convicted and we don't want to get hit with a defamation lawsuit. But it seems very like based on the evidence that that is the conclusion that the DOJ is likely going to make.
So the subpoenas are coming out. We're gonna find out who was behind this and we already know some of the people involved, right? We have some lawmakers out in Arizona. Rudy Giuliani was apparently a part of this. ALEC, the American legislative exchange council has been linked to these plans as well. So hopefully the Justice Department does their due diligence here and they flush out all of the little cockroaches that have been crawling all over this scheme. And again, as other, you know, legal experts have pointed out, you're looking at potential, you know, fraud against the federal government. You're looking at mail fraud, you're looking at wire fraud. You're looking at all these other different kinds of fraud here, most of them carry fairly severe penalties. So the people involved, which again does include some sitting lawmakers from these states, they may not be able to finish their terms depending on how this investigation goes because there is a very good chance right now that a lot of people end up in prison for this scheme. If, of course the Justice Department does its job. I'm hopeful that they will, hopeful that they will, but always skeptical considering what we've seen from them so far.
